Nigerian President Feels the Heat as Scandals Unfold (7 stories)

Dark clouds are shadowing Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan who has been largely unscathed by scandal until new evidence of shocking corruption hit he front pages and the usually compliant media tentatively began to speak out.

The Federal Government has concluded arrangements to commence the repatriation of 508 Nigerians living in Saudi Arabia, beginning from Wednesday.

Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam has explained that the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, took its dominance of Nigerian politics for granted by letting five of its governors to defect to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC.

Chief of Naval Staff , Vice Adm. Dele Ezeoba, on said that the Nigerian Navy destroyed 1,556 illegal oil refineries and arrested 1,646 suspects in 2013.

Nigeria's military said on Tuesday it had killed at least 50 Islamist rebels fleeing towards Cameroon in a battle in which 15 of its own soldiers and five civilians also died.

Witnesses say Nigeria's military is in hot pursuit of Islamic extremists who abducted soldiers' wives and children when they attacked a barracks in northeast Nigeria.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ogun State, Chief Kushimo Lukmon, was yesterday, attacked by unknown gunmen who broke into his house at Ita-Eko, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
